The following is information for all visiting filmmakers to the 2019 Footcandle Film Festival

SPECIAL SCRIPTWRITING COMPETITION EVENT, THURSDAY, SEPT. 26th
We are inviting all visiting filmmakers to join us for a special event on Thursday night, September 26th (the night before the festival officially begins).
The Footcandle Film Festival, in partnership with The Visiting Writers Series of Lenoir-Rhyne University, held the first year of the Footcandle Scriptwriting Competition in 2019. Script submissions were accepted earlier in the year, and a committee reviewed all applications and selected a winner for this year’s award.
The winner of this year’s competition will receive their award at a special event on Thursday, September 26th, at 7:00pm at the Belk Centrum on the Lenoir-Rhyne University campus. The event will consist of the author discussing their work, a table reading of a portion of their script, and a Question-and-Answer session. The event is free and open to the public.
All visiting filmmakers to the Footcandle Film Festival are also invited to a special reception with immediately following the Scriptwriting Competition event that evening. It will be a great chance to meet other filmmakers, members of the Footcandle Film Society and the Lenoir-Rhyne Visiting Writers Series.
TRANSPORTATION TO HICKORY
If you are flying into the Charlotte airport and do not wish to rent a car or use a ride-sharing service to get to Hickory (it is about one hour away), we recommend using the Hickory Hop service. It is a shuttle that will pick you up at the airport at a designated time and drive you to the Crowne Plaza hotel in Hickory. You must reserve your seat on the shuttle and tell the service what flight you are taking and estimated arrival time. You can book your reservation on their web site at: https://www.hickoryhop.com.
TRAVEL STIPEND
We have a travel stipend of up to $200 we are willing to provide to a representative of each film to help with travel expenses in addition to providing up to four (4) complimentary nights of a hotel room during the weekend. This would allow you to join us if you wish for the entire festival weekend (Thursday night through Sunday night). The representative would also receive a full weekend festival pass and is welcome to attend any of the screenings or events. Please note: attendance is not a requirement for having your film play at the festival and take part in the competition.
HOTEL
The Crowne Plaza hotel in Hickory, NC (1385 Lenoir Rhyne Blvd SE) will be where all visiting filmmakers will stay. The hotel is approximately 8 minutes away from the festival venue (SALT Block, 243 3rd Avenue NE). There is Lyft and Uber service available in Hickory if you do not wish to rent a car; the ride-sharing services should be able to transport you back between the hotel and venue easily. There are also volunteers at the festival that have offered to help transport people between the hotel and venue, although their schedule may be limited.
If you have not yet let us know that you are planning to attend, please do so as soon as you can and let us know which nights you are planning to stay so we can make sure we have rooms ready for you.
FESTIVAL SCHEDULE

We are providing you a full weekend pass for the festival that contains tickets for each film screening, the Friday night Opening Night Short Films Event and Reception, and the Sunday night Closing Awards Ceremony and Dinner. The tickets are all waiting for you at the festival Box Office.
We also have a filmmaker lounge at the festival venue where you are welcome to have some snacks or drinks and spend time in-between film screenings if you wish. Members of the festival planning committee will be on-hand to welcome you and help you with anything you need.
